Cruise improvements

Cruise set-up at Ogden Point is in full swing this month and the GVHA maintenance crew is getting ready for our busiest season yet. When a cruise ship ports in Victoria, guests typically disembark and explore the city, while employees may take a breather offshore at the pier between shifts. We set up two tent stations for cruise line employees—a crew lounge and a chapel. The lounge has a patio area where crew can relax and use the wifi. At the chapel, a local pastor, Cecil Kleu, welcomes workers and offers them coffee, snacks, and leads sermons.

This year, 247 cruise ship calls and approximately 600, 000 passengers will visit Ogden Point. Our port will also welcome the Norwegian Bliss, the largest and newest ship voyaging to Alaska this year, which will be berthed at Pier A every Friday through the season after their inaugural call on June 1. The first cruise ship arrives on April 11.
