GVHA maintenance team is looking ahead to a busy 2018, with several projects at Fisherman’s Wharf and across our other properties. The crew is also welcoming a new member to their team, Robin Orr, who will help see maintenance plans to fruition in the new year. Robin is a born and bred Vancouver Islander, and he’s happy to be back in Victoria after spending some time on the west coast of the island. Robin has worked in construction for much of his career and says one of the best parts about the trade is being able to build something from scratch. “I enjoy any chance to make something new,” says Robin. “I like building things and working on the water, so I’m sure I’ll be able to get right into my job here.”
Prior to GVHA, Robin worked for the Alpine Group and collaborated with the city to develop routing efficiencies, as well as helping the CRD develop their kitchen scraps collection program. When he lived in Tofino, Robin also ran whale-watching tours. Between his experience in construction and his time spent on the water, Robin has a skillset that fits well with the maintenance needs of a working harbour. A larger, upcoming project for the team includes the new building being put in for Barbs’ Fish and Chips at Fisherman’s Wharf, which will involve pulling apart the docks so that the crew can float the old building out and the new one in.
