Greater Victoria Harbour Authority (GVHA) is currently seeking a Security Manager. This one-year term contract position (with an option to extend) will be responsible for the operational oversight of Greater Victoria Harbour Authority‘s (GVHA) security program. This includes developing and implementing security policies, protocols and procedures; managing budgets for security operations and monitoring expenses; recruiting, training and supervising any in-house security personnel and overseeing any external security contracted services. This role will also be required to conduct a security audit to assess GVHA’s current and future security needs and make recommendations by the end of the term contract.
Ideally you are a licensed security professional with at least 5 years’ recent experience in a public or private organization (marine environment preferred), plus 3 to 5 years of management/training experience. You have experience developing: budgets, a variety of written reports, and statistical data analysis. You are proficient in using relevant security technology and equipment. Experience in emergency response planning and reporting is vital with a valid First Aid certificate and driver’s license required. You must also possess or be eligible for Transportation Security Clearance.
The successful candidate will have the ability to assess and develop a security plan for GVHA with working knowledge of Marine Transportation security regulations plus other applicable security regulations. Demonstrating excellent communication, leadership, coaching/training, and relationship building skills is key, along with having strong problem solving and organizational skills. Being available to work after hour calls and evenings/weekends is required as well as enjoying working collaboratively in a diverse and busy outdoor environment.
