Amped for upgrades

Fisherman’s Wharf float home-owners, live-aboard boaters, and commercial operators got an early Christmas present last month—an upgraded electrical system that’s brought in new Shaw cabling and strong WIFI. “Our clients are over the moon about it,” says Simon Renvoize, GVHA project manager. Vessels were upgraded with heat-traced water supplies to prevent piping from freezing over the winter.

The power needs of a small, live-aboard vessel or float home are modest in comparison to a normal house, and while a home on land may easily require a 100 amp power supply, a live-aboard can suffice with 30 amps. The project also salvaged unnecessary power from docks D and E and redistribute it to the main dock to power up commercial businesses at Fisherman’s Wharf, particularly in preparation for the expansion of Barb’s Fish and Chips.

An upgraded meter-reading system—connected by internet cable from the docks to the marina office— now allows the coordinator at Fisherman’s Wharf to see power consumption on the docks, a system that will also be linked to the corporate office.
